The relaunching of the Pensions Commission by the UK government, the aim of which is to explore obstacles to adequate pensions savings and make recommendations for a future-proofed pensions system, is a significant step. However, achieving a fair solution for everyone will require value-based judgements, alongside expertise and data modelling.
The New Citizen Project's report, 'Deliberative Democracy and Pensions', introduces the RAPID Democracy framework. The paper makes the argument that any new solution needs to be moulded by the citizens whose futures rely on fair pensions reform, and deliberative democracy provides the strengthened legitimacy and democratic mandate needed for these choices.
