Lloyd's Investment Breakfast - Trends in impact investing by insurance companies

Wednesday 18th September 2024, 08:45-10:45
Ten Trinity Club, Four Seasons, 10 Trinity Square, London EC3N 4AJ.
An invitation for you to join Kyrylo Sukhanenko, Head of UK Insurance Team & Jessica Zarzycki, Impact Portfolio Manager at Nuveen, a TIAA Company, on Wednesday 18 September at 8:45am to 10:45am, as we discuss recent trends in impact investing, new capital market structures as well as existing frameworks for measurements and impact data.

Presentation Title: Trends in impact investing by insurance companies.

An impact strategy clearly defines the purpose of its investments which are made with the intention of generating additional positive, measurable social and environmental impact, alongside financial returns. These outcomes can vary; they may target a specific goal or a combination of environmental or socially-orientated objectives. Environmental goals, such as carbon reduction, have become increasingly important for insurance investors globally. However, some investors remain on the fence regarding impact strategies. Concerns persist about where to invest to achieve positive impact, what the effective metrics are for determining and measuring success and the perception that impact strategies may sacrifice financial returns. Nevertheless, demand for environmentally-friendly and outcome-oriented investments is on the rise from insurers, and there are solutions to these perceived barriers.

Nuveen, a TIAA company believes that public debt today enables repeatable, efficient, scalable and transparent capital market solutions for impact investing. Bonds are available that champion causes ranging from ocean preservation to specific community & economic development. Improvements across the industry have helped investors track the real-world results of their investments with more precision. Nuveen, a TIAA company is 17 years into investing this way!

Join the cio investment club investment breakfast where we bring together a small group of Lloyd’s of London insurers to discuss how to pursue positive social and environmental impact alongside competitive financial returns across a broad range of public fixed income asset classes. The discussion will be preceded by a presentation from Jessica Zarzycki, Impact Portfolio Manager at Nuveen.
